New York City, New York Senior Living and Housing

In New York City, older adults aged 55 and over who have retired or want to downsize their living, have options of independent living or retirement communities, and assisted living. Independent living in New York City is for seniors who do not need assistance with the activities of daily living. Most of the independent living facilities in NYC are communities that do not provide medical service but offer assistance with some daily life tasks. For example, some of the amenities may include housekeeping, laundry service, recreational activities such as arts and crafts, exercise, social gatherings, and even transportation. Across New York City are numerous independent living communities, providing something for everyone. Within the city are active adult communities with some homes for sale. There are also senior apartments, which are living units with an age requirement. The retirement communities in the city offer independent living with amenities. Additionally, there is affordable senior housing, which provides rental assistance to seniors who meet requirements.

Senior villages in New York City are a newer concept where members pay an annual fee, and volunteers provide residences with services that help them live independently. The continuing care retirement communities in NYC offer both independent living and assisted living, along with nursing care. Assisted living in New York City are adult care facilities, where supervision and personal care are provided to residents. The assisted living residences in the city are certified adult homes or enriched housing programs that have been approved by the Department of Health and licensed as an assisted living residence. Within the city, any operator of an assisted living residence must provide housing, 24-hour on-site monitoring, and personal care services to five or more adult residences. The assisted living residences in the city may offer each resident their own room, a small apartment, or a shared space with a suitable room.
