Residential Energy Suppliers
The residential energy trend that is being followed in various states across the United States
In 1989, Congress passed an act that implied that the energy resources which were used by domestic, commercial and industrial setups will be available for choice by energy companies. The energy companies could compete with the utility and other companies to give the consumers a choice to buy their energy resource from them.
Slowly, about fifteen states across the United States have implemented the conversion to energy companies. That means that the residents and professionals in fifteen states of the United States are currently using energy resources that they have purchased from energy companies. That way, the customers can choose their own company that they want to buy their energy from and set the terms of their payment and usage.
The energy suppliers in the United States are currently engaged in providing three major resources of energy to the residents, namely; electricity, natural gas and solar power. These energy resources are provided to the residents of any state at the following condition if they choose to buy their energy from an energy company.
1. Approved by Utility Board
Any energy company that wishes to sell energy in a state has to be approved by the utility board of that particular state. Every state has a council or a commission or a central office that will approve the company that could reach out to consumers. Only approved energy companies can distribute in a state.
2. Supply and Distribution
One of the most essential parts that should be understood about residential energy supply is the difference between supply and distribution. If you’re buying energy from an energy company, you will be provided your energy i.e. electricity, natural gas or solar energy; it will be supplied through the already present utility connections. The supply will be taken care of by the utility. The companies are responsible for the distribution which is a based on an area-wise supply. Distribution can be understood as what areas that company can supply the utility connections to provide the energy.
3. Regulated Rates
One of the key factors about residential energy is that it is available to customers at a regulated rate. The regulated rate is determined by the utility office of the state. The supply rate is always the regulated rate. The energy companies can charge for the distribution which includes provision of their own equipment, maintenance and also the general charges for distribution.
